Roisin was chosen as a finalist for the 'National Golden Egg Fashion Innovation Awards' where this look walked the runway.
This two-piece ensemble explores layering, material contrast, and Japanese-inspired pattern innovation. The inner garment is a fitted, strapless mini dress crafted from turquoise raw silk—its subtle texture and characteristic slubs lending a tactile richness to the underlayer. Acting as both slip and standalone piece, the dress is finished with bias binding and an invisible zipper for a clean silhouette.
The outer dress is made from white cotton organdie, a semi-transparent, crisp fabric that holds shape and invites sculptural expression. Sleeveless and cinched at the waist, the silhouette is clean and architectural. The back features a complex and seemingly interwoven construction inspired by Japanese basketry and abstract weaving techniques due to innovative pattern drafting resulting in a structural, trompe l'oeil crisscross formation that fuses traditional craft language with contemporary form.
Designed with movement and visibility in mind, the transparency of the organdie highlights the contrasting texture and colour of the silk beneath, turning functional layering into a design feature. A back slit allows for ease of movement, and the minimal palette amplifies the interplay of structure, translucency, and light.
This project is a study in balance between softness and rigidity, inner and outer, concealment and exposure brought together through precise cutting and material sensitivity.
This look represents Roisin beginning to engage with her exploration into materials, craftsmanship, heritage, innovation and silhouette development.
